Welcome to the 808 Snail Mail Club, a monthly creative mail experience by ATEA Polynesian Arts.
The 808 Snail was created from a simple idea: slow down, create something meaningful, and send a little piece of Hawaiʻi along the way.
Writing is one of my art forms. Each month, I’ll sit down somewhere here in Hawaiʻi and write… about a story, an experience, a lesson, a place, a thought, or simply something that has inspired me.
Then I’ll turn that story into something you can experience beyond the words.
Along with my letter, you may find a piece of art inspired by that month’s writing… perhaps a handmade postcard, one of my photographs of Hawaiʻi, a sticker, a small art piece, or another creative surprise connected to the story.
No two mailings have to be exactly the same.
That’s part of the 808 Snail.
Why the Snail? 🐌
Life moves fast.
Messages arrive instantly. Photos disappear into camera rolls. Stories get lost in endless scrolling.
The 808 Snail is my reminder to move a little differently.
To notice where we are.
To write things down.
To create with our hands.
To send something across the ocean and allow it to take its time getting there.
Because sometimes the things that take a little longer are the things we treasure most.
Your First 808 Snail 🐌
When you join the club, you’ll be welcomed with a special 808 Snail Tapaglyph Postcard, created especially for new members.
It represents the beginning of your journey with the 808 Snail and introduces the little character behind the stories that will soon begin making their way to your mailbox.
After that, you never quite know what the snail may bring.
A story.
A photograph.
A piece of art.
A little piece of Hawaiʻi.
Something I discovered.
Something I created.
Something worth sharing.
Whatever it may be, it will have a story behind it.
